Original desktop size of 851px wide by 315px high has been reduced to 828px wide (April 1, 2016).
As you notice Your mobile Cover Photo will have the sides cut off! An ideal option for optimizing a cover photo for both desktop & mobile is to upload an image larger than recommended size (828px x 315px). Make the height 463px, which adds 74px on the top and 74px on the bottom, which gets cut off on desktop. (315 + 74 + 74 = 463).
Images with a logo or a text may be best as a PNG file.
